A variety of assistive equipment and devices are available for use by persons

Computer with speech software
A computer with speech software, funded through a partnership with the Oakland Community
Assistive Technology Council, is equipped with a 19 inch monitor and JAWS for Windows
making the Internet and other online resources accessible to visually impaired persons.
Reading
aids
People with low vision are able to try over 80 different types of reading aids
including hand held and stand magnifiers, as well as book holders that may all be checked
out for use at home. Use the Magni-Cam, a
powerful and portable magnifier that is available for checkout.
Optelec
The Optelec 20/20, available in the Outreach Services room and at four Outreach
Minibranch libraries, is a closed circuit television system that magnifies up to 60 times
allowing persons with low vision to view print and non print materials such as
photographs, coins, stamps and handwritten notes.
A TDD
Telecommunications Device for the Deaf is available for questions and book requests. Call
248-650-7153.
A wheelchair, motorized scooter,
walkers and shopping carts are available for in-library use.
Most of this equipment is located at the Information Desk with the exception
of the shopping carts that are located across from the checkout desk.
