Storytime
Each child registering for
storytime must have his/her own library card.
Applications are available online at www.rhpl.org/getslibrarycard1.html.
Please visit the library’s website at www.rhpl.org,
click on the Schedule of Events to locate the storytime day and time you
desire or come into the youth area to register online.
Storytimes are available for children birth through age 5 who
resides in
Rochester
, Rochester Hills or
Oakland
Township
. Due to the popularity of
these programs, one storytime per child, please make necessary child care
arrangements for older or younger siblings.
Winter Session registration begins Monday, January 7 with storytimes
beginning the following week, for a 4 week session.
The spring registration will begin on Monday, February 25,
storytimes beginning the following week, for 3 week session.

PAWS for
Reading
with Lucy and Annabelle

Youth Room
If you have not visited the library on Wednesday night you are missing a
great treat! Liz Buchheister,
Rochester Hills Public Library volunteer, and her specially trained
Newfoundlands
, Lucy and Annabelle visit the library each Wednesday night to help young
people practice their reading.
Annabelle and her sister, Lucy, trained therapy dogs, stretch out on
beanbag chairs and are surrounded by books.
Children join Annabelle or Lucy and Liz their trainer in order to
practice their reading. Children
can sign-up in advance for an appointment, approximately 15 minutes in
length. Residents may make an
appointment in person at the Youth Services Desk, or call: 248
650-7140 to schedule a PAWS for
Reading session. Due to
the popularity of this program appointments do fill quickly.
Story Program for the Deaf and
Hard of Hearing
2nd and 4th

All Ages
This specially designed program is provided by the Ephphatha Lutheran
Mission Society. Each program
will be presented in American Sign Language and voiced for deaf and hard
of hearing children and children of deaf adults.

desire to become a chef. His father and brother do not approve, and would
rather stick to the normal rat life of eating garbage.

or blanket and settle down to watch Ratatouille on the library big
screen. Bring your favorite
juice box or water and we will provide the snack.

The French Voyageur’s
Winter Celebrations

300 years ago when the French explored the wilderness around the
Great Lakes
, they brought their songs, stories and holiday traditions with them and
also learned the culture of the people they found living there. Genot
Picor will bring a sampling of these cultures to
Rochester
. He has fun stories, songs and dances demonstrating the importance of the
New Year holiday. Get ready to
sing, howl, move your feet, clap your hands and celebrate with your whole

Unity Walk

The Rochester Community Schools is sponsoring a community Unity Walk in
honor of the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The walk will begin at the library with kick-off performances by
RCS’s students and conclude at the
Administration
Center
. Following the planning of a
Peace Pole, participants will gather in the Harrison Room for a brief
keynote address, musical performances and refreshments.
