Featured Reviews- July 2010:
Scott, Kieran. She's so dead to us Told in two voices, high school juniors Ally, who now lives on the poor side of town, and Jake, the "Crestie" whose family bought her house, develop feelings for one another that are complicated by her former friends, his current ones, who refuse to forgive her for her father's bad investment that cost them all. (Kricket says: nice fluffy girly beach read.)
Potter, Ryan. Exit strategy Seventeen-year-old Zach, his best friend (and state wrestling champion) Tank, and Tank's twin sister Sarah, an Ivy League-bound scholar, are desperate to leave their depressing hometown of Blaine, Michigan, after next year's graduation, but plans go awry when Zach uncovers a steroid scandal and falls in love with Sarah. (Kricket says: This takes place in Michigan, so see if you recognize any elements. Ryan Potter lives in the Metro Detroit area.)
Hand, Elizabeth. Illyria Teenage cousins Madeleine and Rogan, who share twin souls and a romantic relationship, are cast in a school production of Twelfth Night that forces them to confront their respective strengths and future prospects. (Kricket says: a strange and wonderful little book. If you're a Madeleine L'Engle fan, you especially need to pick this up.)
Briceland, Vance. The buccaneer's apprentice On his first sea voyage, seventeen-year-old Nic Dattore faces vicious pirates then, with a motley crew of castaways, decides to commandeer the pirate ship to return home, racing against time to save the magical city of Cassaforte from a diabolical plot. (Kricket says: this companion book to The glass maker's daughter is excellent swashbuckling fun from another Metro Detroit author. )
