science in contextMarch is Women’s History Month, so what better time to explore the contributions women have made to science and technology? RHPL has a unique database called Science in Context that pools information culled from a variety of sources, including academic journals, editorials, and podcasts. Search for “Marie Curie” and you will find magazine articles, photographs, and even a video on the Polish physicist. All this and more is available online by visiting our website, then clicking Explore>Research>Science & Technology.

 
Eighth Grade Essay Contest Print E-mail

womanThe Rochester Hills Public Library and the Auburn Hills Public Library are co-sponsoring the AAUW Rochester Branch's Eighth Grade Women's History Month Essay Contest. The theme is "A Woman of Significance to Me." A student entering the contest should answer the question: What personal goals am I able to pursue because of the influence of a woman, either past or present? The person chosen as a subject of the essay could be a family member, a teacher, someone in the community or a historical figure who has opened new pathways of opportunity to your generation. The contest is open to eighth grade students in the Rochester and Avondale school districts. Prizes of $100, $75 and $50 will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners on March 26 at the Rochester Community House.  For more information, please view the essay rules and the entry form. Applications are also available at both libraries and middle schools. The essay submission deadline is March 13.

Wine-Wit-and-Wisdom-LogoThe Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library invite you to enjoy an evening of entertaining and informative speakers, beverages, food and a silent auction at Wine, Wit & Wisdom to be held at the library on Saturday, March 14 at 7 to 10 p.m. Each guest will be entitled to attend two 30-minute sessions by notable speakers, enjoy a strolling dinner, beverages (wine, beer, soft drink) and desserts. Registration and payment--$50 per person--must be received no later than March 10. Registration forms are available at the Information Desk in the library or online on the library's website.
