Stoney Creek Members In Action

A rotating collection of photos of club members in action. Submissions welcome....

In late 2004, Phil holds an open house and lets a group of Cub Scouts operate his two layous.

Trains bring out the smiles in everyone!

A crew takes a break after finishing a run.

On December 4th, 2004, the Stoney Creek club held its annual Christmas party.

Dinner is almost done and soon the variety show will start. Ed, our master of ceremonies, is sitting front and center.

During December, 2004, the Stoney Creek modules are setup for a month at the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm.

The Santa train pulls into the Rochester Depot. The Grand Trunk RR provided the locomotive free of charge.

Santa and an elf wave to all the kids on the platform. Hot coco is being served inside.

Jim C. runs trains and works the crowd. Club members were at the museum for 26 out of 31 days that month.

After a long hiatus, steam returns to Rochester. Its about time!

On October 5, 2004, the golden spike ceremony for the Port Huron and Northern Railroad is held at Al's place.

Al drives the 1st spike in.

Setting the spike.

The club presents Al a plaque to commemorate the event. The spike is real and the board is made from a plank from a RR depot.

And the crowd goes wild!

August, 2004. Introduction to Model Railroading Clinic, Shelby Township Library

Ed, Joel, and Brian put on an introductory clinic at the Shelby library, which was glad to have us visit. 27 guests of all ages learned the basics of benchwork, track, wiring, and scenery. The library already has an elevated G-gague train that orbits the Children's room and is a big hit.

May, 2004. This picture is so classic I has to post it.

Here we have the Monday Crew helping Don setup a car-card operating system for his railroad. I think the picture looks like a cross between a poker game and 'The Last Supper'. We got a fair bit of work done that night and Don had the paperwork finished in time for the operating system.

May, 2004. Phil holds an open house and lets a group of Girl Scouts operate his two layous.

The crew hauls freight on Phils old layout. By the end of the evening, shipments were being delivered to customers, the whistle was blown for all grade crossings, and the tender was kept topped of by regular visits to the water tank.

Guests help finish the 'painted desert'.

I think we may have some future artists here.

Father and dauther operate trains. The sound equiped steam engines where a big hit.

Wow, DCC is so easy a child can operate it. Now if she could just teach the rest of us.

March, 2004. The Stoney Creek HO modules are setup at the Gratiot Valley train show. We're kind of a regular there.

Don, Brian, and Phil help setup the modules the day before the show. I think the guy is red is related to Tony.

Don inserts a straight section of track to bridge the gap between the modules. The tracks running off the back of the module will be connected to one of our staging yards.

November, 2003. The 'Monday Crew' visits Ed's layout to do some track ballasting. But a rather bare area calls to us and very quickly it becomes a lush green hillside.

Dave, Jim, and Ed add some greenery to Ed's rolling hills. The ballasting crew has already been through this section of the layout.

Dave uses fine ballast to create a dirt road next to an abandoned, weed-grown track.

Faster than the eye can see, diluted white glue is used to hold everything in place.

The finished scene. A 'before' picture can be found somewhere on this website, for those who want to hunt.

The RR is going to have quite a time cleaning up this wreck. You can bet the foreman is grateful that one of the cars didn't take out the trestle!

November, 2003. The Stoney Creek HO modules are setup at the Gratiot Valley train show.

Gale and Karl pose some engines on storage tracks.

Paul makes an adjustment while Joel keeps an eye on the trains that are running.

An innovative new coupler design was tried at the show. While it did make the air hoses easier to connect, it reduced the pulling power of the engine to zero cars on a straight and level track.

October, 2003. Ken moves, and so must his layout. Special thanks to Gil and Rad for providing vehicles.

Phil, Gil, Rad, Ken, and Brian (holding camera) prepare to move the first load.

These photoes were taken while operating Gale Saxton's layout at the October 2003 club meeting.

Ed, Duane, & Chad operate Summit Yard. The dedicated 0-8-0 is being used to pull cars from a local industry. Soon a passenger train will stop by to pick up the dinner parked near the station.

Dan adds cars to Ken's train at Green River Yard. Soon Ken will head East for Boston.

These photos were take in August 2003 when a group of us got together to help Roger build the benchwork for his HO railroad. What you see here was the days work of 5 members. I'm impressed!

Ed measures a leg brace for the island. Do not attempt to clean your monitor, the spots were on my camera lens.

A view from under the island as Ed cuts a gusset. Note the cantilever benchwork on the far wall. Below is a half width shelf for storage.

These photos were taken in June, 2003, when Al had us all out to his house in Harbor Beach for a picnic.

Hail to the Chef! Al grills up some delicious food.

Jim engineers as Al 'pulls pins'. Operating a G-gague layout means real work. Bamboo stakes make great brakes and screwdriver separates couplers.

Dan wonders if he can run his N-scale trains outdoors.

Your loyal webmaster scrubs some large scale track. "I've been working on the railroad, all the live-long day..."
