The Boston & Maine is approximately 240' point-to-point with the focus on operations for 5-7 persons and a dispatcher. It runs from South Berlin to Boston and has 3 operating yards. Even after becoming operational, the railroad continues to expand with the recent addition of the largest yard, Green River.
Operating sessions feature sound equipped steam and diesel engines, passenger and freight trains with independently controlled double-headed steam consists, and scheduled meets of doodle-bugs. Car movements are controlled through car cards and dispatching is done with radio headsets. First time operators of the Boston & Maine generally end up with the local switching turn that visits a town with a John Allen time saver. I suspect this is caused by the regular operators knowing better. :)
The pictures shown below are of club members operating the layout during an October 2003 club meeting.
