The Sugar Springs Mining Co. RR was created to haul precious ores and lumber for the Sugar Springs Mine. Located in Southwestern Colorado, it soon expanded to serve other mines and communities in the area. On line industries now include the towns of Sugar Springs, Travillan, and Ewan Gulch, the mines at Sugar Springs, Stockdale, Griffin, and Hoad Hill, as well as a loging camp and a stamp mill. The RR features a dual gague mail line with narrow gague branch lines.
Jim's layout portrays a western mining company with its mountainous terrain and numerous trees. The layout is multilevel ranging from 45" to 65". A Lens DCC system has resent been added, which has enhanced the operating sessions that are hosted a couple times a year.
A article on Jim's layout has been accepted by Model Railroader and is expected to be published some time before print media is replaced by e-publishing.
