What to read, what to read? Check out some of these booklists & suggestions from RHPL's teen librarian, Kricket.
Featured Reviews- March 2010:
Bray, Libba. Going bovine Cameron Smith, a disaffected sixteen year-old who, after being diagnosed with Creutzfeld Jakob's (aka mad cow) disease, sets off on a road trip with a death-obsessed video gaming dwarf he meets in the hospital in an attempt to find a cure. (Kricket says: I couldn't stop laughing. Or pondering my own mortality.)
Summers, Courtney. Cracked up to be High school senior Parker Fadley has quit the cheerleading squad, broken up with her popular boyfriend, and is in danger of not graduating with her class, but she refuses to tell anyone what has precipitated this sudden change in her attitude and behavior, insisting that she only wants to be left alone. (Kricket says: What is she hiding? Mysterious, and an all-around good story.)
Yancey, Rick. The monstrumologist In 1888, twelve-year-old Will Henry chronicles his apprenticeship with Dr. Warthrop, a scientist who hunts and studies real-life monsters, as they discover and attempt to destroy a pod of Anthropophagi. (Kricket says: About man-eating monsters, so not for the faint of heart. You should probably only read this during daylight hours, ok?)
Lockhart, E. Fly on the wall When Gretchen Yee, a student at the Manhattan School for Art and Music, wishes she were a fly on the wall of the boys' locker room, she never expects her wish to come true in such a dramatic way. (Kricket says: this is a quick and fluffy one, but definitely fun.)
