eBooks & Virtual Services from RHPL

  • eBooks from Overdrive - eBooks from Overdrive. Click here to see all downloadable material. 
  • eAudioBooks from Overdrive - Download ebooks and eaudiobooks to your computer or mobile device. You may download up to 10 books per library card. The books return automatically and there are no overdue fines!
  • Freading eBooks - Recommended for black & white Nook/Sony/Kobo eReader users - or iPad & Android tablet users. These EPUB books are always available and are checked out for two weeks by default.
  • Gale Virtual Reference Library - Search across dozens of specialized encyclopedias and award winning reference sources in diverse subject areas including business, education, environment, history, law, health and medicine, multicultural studies, religion, science, and more. (RHPL library card is required to use this service).
  • EBSCO eBook Collection - Choose from a comprehensive collection of eBooks for all of your research and informational requirements, including topics such as computer programming, business, history, medicine, and more. Each of these books can be read on your computer or mobile device with no need to download special software. (RHPL library card is required to use this service).
  • Internet Archive - Access to books from libraries and research centers from all around the globe. RHPL is also a proud member library!
  • TumbleBook Library - Online collection of animated, talking picture books that are designed to encourage the joy of reading in young children. (RHPL library card is required to use this service).
  • TumbleReadables - Online read-along collection of early readers, middle school books, teen books, and classics. (RHPL library card is required to use this service).
  • Project Gutenberg - Volunteer effort to digitize and archive cultural works in order to "encourage the creation and distribution of eBooks." It was founded in 1971 by Michael S. Hart - and is the oldest digital library.

eAudiobook Information

  1. Books may be loaned for either a 7, 14, or 21-day period.
  2. Your books will automatically be returned once the loan period is up. You will never be charged a late fee!
  3. You can take out up to 10 books (eBooks or eAudiobooks) at a time. You can return a book early, if you wish, and your account will cleared in a matter of minutes.
  4. Books can be renewed if no one else is waiting for the item.
  5. OverDrive ebooks work just like a regular library book. Only one person can check out a library copy at a time. You can put a hold on a book if you'd like, and you will be notified when it becomes available. You will have 72 hours to claim it; otherwise it goes to the next person on the list.

eAudioBooks & Services from RHPL

  • eAudioBooks from Overdrive - Download ebooks and eaudiobooks to your computer or mobile device. You may download up to 10 books per library card. The books return automatically and there are no overdue fines!
  • Playaways - Don't have your own portable device for eAudioBooks? Check out these pre-loaded players from the main library!
  • TumbleBooks - An online collection of animated, talking picture-books for kids. RHPL library card required to use this service).
  • Tumble Readables - Online readalong collection of early readers, middle school books, teen books, and classics (RHPL library card required to use this service).
  • Free SYNC Audiobooks - SYNC offers 2 FREE audiobooks each week starting May 7, 2015. Sign up for email or text alerts that invite you to download the new titles as they become available.
 

Zinio Information

RHPL's subscription to Zinio gives you access to over 200 popular magazines. Read directly in your internet browser or download the Zinio for Libraries app!

Download Zinio App

The Zinio for Libraries app can only be used to read magazines. Browsing the collection and subscribing to magazines must be done using an internet browser on a computer or smartphone!

Create Zinio Account for Library Account and Browse

On your computer or in your tablet or phone’s web browser, go to the magazine tab. Here you’ll find more information about Zinio magazines. Click on Register & Create Account.

You are now logged into the RHPL Zinio digital magazine site and can read all of the magazines you see in the site. Once you find a magazine you would like to read:

(Please note: To read magazines on your tablet you will need to download a separate Zinio for Libraries app).

Read Your Magazines

Note: You must first browse for and download magazines using a web browser on your computer or mobile device.

Computer users

Zinio is available for use entirely in your internet and web browser:

  • Compatible with PC—Internet Explorer 10+, Chrome, and Firefox
  • Compatible with Mac—Safari, Chrome, and Firefox

iPhone/iPad & Android

Please note: If you attempt to read the magazine within the internet browser on your tablet, you will receive a message that you need to update Adobe Flash on your device. All Zinio magazines must be read in the Zinio for Libraries app on your tablet.

  • Go to your device’s store (App Store, Google Play, etc.). Search for Zinio for Libraries. Download the Zinio for Libraries app.
  • Login by selecting your country, state and library (The Library Network).

All of the magazines you have previously checked out in your web browser will be available. Tap on a cover to read and download a magazine. Any magazine with a cloud icon in the bottom right corner has not yet been downloaded and will not be available to read unless you are connected to the internet.

Kindle Fire

Use the link at the top of the page to download the app, or you may download it from the checkout screen on the Zinio website. Follow the iPhone/Android instructions to get your magazines on your device.

Additional Notes

 

  • At this time, it is not possible to automatically subscribe to a magazine with RHPL’s Zinio magazine service. You can, however, sign up for email alerts when a new issue of your favorite magazine is available. You’ll receive one email a week with a list of your magazines that are updated and ready to check out.
  • There is no limit to the number of magazines you can download and enjoy from RHPL’s Zinio magazine service.
  • Digital magazines that you download through RHPL’s Zinio magazine service will never expire. If you delete a magazine, it can always be retrieved within your account.
