The aquarium was donated by the Friends of the Library in 1992. It is a fresh water tank and holds approximately 700 gallons of water. The Youth Services staff feed the fish in the morning.

Bala Shark 
Bala Sharks are omnivorous which means they eat both plant and animal matter. In the wild, this fish lives in the streams of Borneo, Sumatra and Thailand. Their striking appearance is what also gives them their other name, Silver Shark. They are a very active fish; you can spot them swimming laps in the tank. They are also very good jumpers.

Distichodus
They can grow to be quite large. Some species can be more than a foot long. They need a large tank. They are Herbivorous, which means they eat plant matter. Distichodus are primarily from Africa. It has distinctive stripes.

Kissing Fish
Kissing fish are also called Kissing Gourami. They like to live in sluggish streams and also in swamps, ponds and lakes. They are called Kissing Fish because of their behavior. Kissing Fish feed off of algae and when they do they pucker their lips and stick to the side of objects while feeding.

Plecostomus
The Plecostomus, called a Pleco, or suckermouth catfish, is a kind of catfish. Its distinct spots are also on a number of other catfish species. The Plecostomus feeds primarily on algae. Catfish are generally bottom- dwelling fish; you won't see them swimming around the top of the tank too much. They will mostly be down at the bottom feeding.

Parrot Fish
Parrot Fish are a very large and lovely fish. They tend to be reef fish. Most Parrot Fish live in schools, and they will defend their feeding territory from other fish. If you see one rushing at another one, the Parrot Fish is likely saying, "This is my home, stay out!" Sometimes they also will fan their fins out, making an impressive display to frighten off would-be squatters. The Parrot fish is an algae eater.

Red Tail Shark
This is an aggressive fish, and you may see it chasing other fish around the tank. It likes a place to hide, or it tends to get in fights with other fish. In the wild this fish lives in streams in Thailand. It is mostly Herbivorous, which means it will mostly eat plant matter. This fish can get up to 6 inches in length and has a bright red tail.
