Computer Use Procedures

Residents of Rochester, Rochester Hills, and Oakland Township whose library cards are in good standing will have priority access to our public computers. In order to ensure fair and equal access for all residents, we do require that you login with a library card number and PIN/password to use the computer. Most of the computers are available for a four-hour session. We also have 15-minute Express computers on the 2nd floor. Large flatbed printers and scanners are available to all patrons.

Non-residents (those who live outside of Rochester, Rochester Hills, or Oakland Township) will be restricted to using one of two computers on the 2nd floor. If you are not eligible for a library card from RHPL, you can ask at the Adult Reference Desk on the 2nd floor for a guest pass. Non-residents and guest users are eligible for a 30-minute session on the two computers on the 2nd floor outside the 2nd floor Eureka Lab.

If you have trouble logging in to a public computer, there are many possible reasons. Restrictions are enforced for customers with an expired library card or those who owe more than $5 in fines on their library account. Computers located in the Teen area are restricted to patrons from ages 13 to 18. In addition, there are computers in the Quiet Study Room that are for ages 18 and older. If you have registered for a library card online but have not yet shown ID to receive your physical library card, your temporary library card number will not work on the computers. Please visit the Circulation Desk on the 1st floor for assistance.

All computers users must agree to our Internet Access Policy.
