Your Out-of-Order Guide

Three chairs are arranged around tables creating a reading area. The elevator doors and display shelves from on the second floor are in the background.

RHPL is set to undergo exciting renovations to ensure your library remains a vibrant, welcoming, and future-ready space. Our first project is a much-needed update to our elevator, set to begin the week of August 10.

During this project, a new car and equipment need to be built within the existing elevator shaft, which means the elevator will be out of order from August to October. While the entire project is slated to take six to eight weeks, we will return the elevator to service as soon as we can do so safely.

We know outages can be frustrating. RHPL is working hard to ensure you get the assistance you need, where you need it. Read on to learn how we are keeping RHPL open and running as smoothly as possible during renovations.

Increased staffing

An adult services librarian will be stationed at the circulation desk so you can get reference help at a convenient location. Quick question? We’re here for you. Need research help? We’ve got that, too.  Need materials from the second floor upstairs? Staff can grab what you need and bring it down to you. Whatever your request, we’ll do our best to make it happen.

Computers

Check out laptops with the librarian at the circulation desk to use anywhere in the building. Staff in Outreach Services or the librarian at the circulation desk can help with printing.

Accommodation Requests

If you need items you can only use upstairs, or are scheduled to attend a program in one of our conference rooms and are not able to use the stairs, email help@rhpl.org, and staff will work with you to find the best solution.

Holds

The easiest way to get your materials is by placing holds in the online catalog. Just like you would place holds on checked-out items, any item that is in can be collected by staff and placed at the pickup location you choose. Holds will be pulled and transferred to the first floor every afternoon, and we are committed to delivering holds on items marked “In” by noon the next day.

Convenient pick-up locations

Holds can be picked up at the self-service shelves on the first floor. Just grab your items and use the self-checks or visit the circulation desk. You can also send holds to the drive-up window to check items out without leaving your car, or send them to your preferred Bookmobile stop to pick them up without leaving your neighborhood!

Details, details

The little things that matter to you matter to us, too. If you’re used to visiting the second floor with young children, we’re offering stroller parking at the base of the stairs so you can still browse your collections (We promise, kids, the elevator buttons will be back soon!).
