Book Turkey Centerpiece

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to slow down and think about all the people, places, and things we are thankful for. For children, this can be a fun opportunity to talk about the people they love, their favorite things, special memories, and, of course, the books and stories they enjoy. Being thankful means noticing the good things in our lives and remembering to say, “Thank you!”
This November, children ages 5-12 can celebrate Thanksgiving and their love of reading by creating their very own Book Turkey Centerpiece!
The Book Turkey Centerpiece is a fun, creative craft that encourages children to think about what they are thankful for while putting their own personal spin on a colorful turkey. As they create, children can fill their turkey’s feathers with the people, pets, places, activities, books, and special moments that make them happy. This activity can help children discover all of the wonderful things in their lives and all the adventures they can find in the pages of a good book!
To make our Book Turkey Centerpiece, we can use colorful paper, feathers, and lots of creativity to make our own special turkey. Each feather can have something we are thankful for. Your Book Turkey Centerpiece will be a fun place to share the people, things, and special moments you are thankful for. Get creative, have fun, and make a Book Turkey Centerpiece that is uniquely yours!
Each kit will include the materials your child needs to create their Book Turkey Centerpiece at home. Children can make their turkey silly, colorful, creative, and completely unique to them. It’s also a great opportunity to talk together as a family about gratitude and some of the things that make your child’s life special.
Children ages 5-12 can register for a Book Turkey Centerpiece kit beginning Monday, November 2, 2026, at 9 a.m. Registered participants can pick up their kits at the library Monday, November 16, through Sunday, November 22, 2026.
Kits will include everything needed to create the centerpiece, so once you pick yours up, you’ll be ready to get creative! If you aren’t able to register for a kit, you can still join in the fun! Grab an old book and follow this link for instructions and make your own Book Turkey Centerpiece at home.
As Thanksgiving approaches, we hope this project gives children a chance to celebrate gratitude, creativity, and their love of books. All while making a fun centerpiece to enjoy at home!
