The Rochester Hills Public Library Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is a group of high school students who help shape library services for teens in our community. Through their monthly meetings and related work with me, the Teen Services Librarian, TAB members offer feedback on programs, collections, and services the library offers for teenagers. As the group continues to grow, TAB will begin to propose and develop their own initiatives that reflect the needs, goals, and interests of teens in our community. Their ideas make the library a more welcoming and engaging place for people their age. TAB officers further their commitment to the library by serving as organizers of general members and liaisons to myself and other members of library staff.

Last May, more than 20 local teens packed into one of the library’s conference rooms for the final Teen Advisory Board meeting of the 2025-2026 school year. This highly anticipated meeting included 13 candidate speeches and ended with a close election. By the end of the evening, TAB learned which handful of hopefuls would serve as officers for the 2026-2027 school year. It is my pleasure to introduce you to some of these young leaders.

Brennan

Meet the 2026-2027 Teen Advisory Board President, Brennan! “One fun fact about me is that I have a passion for music, and I play electric guitar and bass in my school's marching band. One goal I have for the Teen Advisory Board is to hold more events that assist local teens with their academic goals such as tutoring sessions, SAT/ACT prep, and inviting speakers to educate teens on college admissions and career opportunities.”

Elis

Meet the 2026-2027 Teen Advisory Board Vice President, Elis! “I enjoy composing music and playing the piano in my free time. As Vice President, I hope to encourage more members of our community to participate in library events, grow the TAB community, and welcome new members. I would also like to help introduce fun games and activities to the library that interests a wide range of age groups and passions.”

Zoe

Meet the 2026-2027 Teen Advisory Board Engagement Lead, Zoe! “I play bass guitar in my spare time! This year I hope to expand the board's impact and inspire incoming high school students to see this as an amazing volunteer opportunity.”

Dev

Meet the 2026-2027 Teen Advisory Board Marketing Lead, Dev! “I have a twin sister. My goal for TAB is to make it grow and do more events that reach out to more people.”

Lukne

Meet the 2026-2027 Teen Advisory Board Programming Lead, Lukne! “A fun fact about me is that I enjoy traveling. I have been to 25 US states and one country in Europe. One goal I have for TAB is to expand our Tutoring with Teens program and introduce more academic help opportunities.”

Due to a substantial increase in interest, Teen Advisory Board membership is now determined by application at the start of every school year. If you are interested in joining the Rochester Hills Public Library’s Teen Advisory Board, the application for the 2026-2027 school year will be open from August 1st to August 31st. We are looking for high school students who have a demonstrated love for our library and are passionate about strengthening teen engagement.
