Summer at the Rochester Hills Public Library is a season filled with discovery, creativity, and fun for children of all ages. When school is out, the library becomes a place where imaginations can grow, and new adventures begin.

One of the highlights of the season is our Summer Reading Program. Children can set personal reading goals, track their progress, and earn entries into our grand prize drawing as well as a free book. Whether you love graphic novels, mysteries, or books about animals, there’s something for everyone. Reading over the summer helps keep young minds active and ready for the next school year, and it’s a great way to explore new worlds without ever leaving home.

The library also offers a wide variety of exciting programs throughout the summer. Little ones can enjoy splashing fun at Water Babies, while preschoolers explore hands-on STEAM activities at Outdoor Explorers. Families can join us for lively weekly storytimes at Rochester Lions Park. For elementary-aged children, we offer engaging opportunities like the America 250 scavenger hunt, creative craft programs such as fairy wand making and cardboard weaving, and fun-filled family movie and game nights. Tweens have plenty to look forward to as well, including book club, creative writing club, and art club designed just for them.

Special events make the summer even more memorable. Join us for our Summer Reading Kickoff in June and celebrate the end of the season at our Summer Sunset Block Party in August. Our monthly Summer Family Concert Series is another highlight, featuring performances by The Music Lady, Jim Gill, and Joe Reilly. A perfect opportunity for singing, dancing, and enjoying time together.

Don’t forget about the library itself! It’s a welcoming space to relax, read, and explore. Browse colorful displays, discover new favorite series, or find a cozy corner to enjoy a good book.

Summer at the library is about more than just reading, it’s about learning, playing, and connecting with your community. Every visit offers a new opportunity to try something different and have fun along the way. We hope to see you at the library this summer!
