But the tiger machine, that was a different story. It took an experienced machine attendant to keep it working. The machine growled and rumbled throughout the day, the oven in its belly needing constant stoking with chunks of coal large as a man’s hand.

The Friends of RHPL is dedicated to building a close relationship between the library and its patrons by promoting library resources, services, and collections. Encouraging community participation in library activities, they raise funds for events and programs and allow librarians to curate the collections patrons want.

RHPL youth librarians will be visiting local elementary schools to speak with area fifth graders in October and the Battle of the Books will officially kickoff on Wednesday, November 12

This month’s recipes use dried or powdered sumac. The spice comes from the fruit of the Sicilian sumac plant (Rhus coriaria), which is dried and ground. The taste of dried sumac compares to that of a fresh-squeezed lemon. It is sharp and tart with hints of sweetness
