This January, Rochester Hills Public Library presents a three-part series dedicated to supporting caregivers in our community with entertainment, recognition, and resources, centered around a panel discussion with community experts who will speak to caregivers' experiences, their areas of expertise, and answer questions from patrons.

It Takes a Village: Caregiving Panel Discussion convenes on Thursday, January 29, at 6:30 p.m. Representatives from AgeWays, OPC, Henry Ford Health and Comfort Keepers, Rochester Community Schools, MDHHS and Oakland County Health Department’s Children’s Special Health Care Services, and Oakland Community Health Network will speak about topics related to caregiving for all ages and stages. Representatives from RAYA will also be on hand to share information with caregivers of school-aged children.

“Panels provide a unique opportunity to get information from multiple sources in one event, and because the topic and experience of caregiving looks different for everyone, we felt it was a discussion that would resonate with our community,” said Betsy Raczkowski, Head of Communications and Engagement at RHPL. Speaking about the series overall, she shared, “We saw a unique opportunity to not only provide the wealth of resources and assistance available for the caregivers in our community, but also celebrate and honor the work they do with entertaining and enriching experiences.”

The program series began in early January with a visit from New York Times Bestselling author Catherine Newman, who discussed her writing and the caregiving themes in her new novel, Wreck. The discussion was recorded by PBS Books and can be viewed on their YouTube page

RHPL is also hosting a special screening of the PBS documentary Caregiving on Tuesday, January 27 at 6 p.m., which tells “the story of paid and unpaid caregivers navigating the challenges and joys of this deeply meaningful work. Intertwining intimate personal stories with the untold history of caregiving, the documentary reveals the state and the stakes of care in America today.” The screening also includes a pizza dinner and quiet activities for those patrons without alternate care for loved ones.

Patrons can register for both events and learn more about the organizations represented at calendar.rhpl.org
