RHPL Summer Reading Challenge
Saturday, June 13-Saturday, August 8
A Rochester Hills Public Library tradition since 1970, the annual summer reading challenge rewards reading and inspires summer learning and play, keeping children, teens, and adults engaged and active during the long, lazy days of summer. RHPL’s free summer programming highlights play, while still offering enrichment and education to help people of all ages keep their minds sharp.
“Reading and lifelong learning are priorities at RHPL,” said library director Juliane Morian. “The library’s strategic plan highlights and supports learners of all ages, along with nurturing young minds and helping patrons find joy and discovery at the library. Summer is a perfect time to discover all the library has to offer, inside and out.”
The RHPL Summer Reading Challenge runs from Saturday, June 13, to Saturday, August 8. To register, visit rhpl.beanstack.org or download the Beanstack app and sign up using an active RHPL card. For easier sign-up, households can add all readers to a single sign-in account.
The only rule for summer reading is to read every day. All forms of reading count (eBooks, Audiobooks, graphic novels, articles, reading out loud to a loved one, it all counts), and there are no required titles or time limits. For every week of reading recorded in Beanstack, earn entries for the end-of-summer grand prize drawing. Complete five of RHPL’s suggestions for free summer fun, and win a limited edition summer reading pin. Everyone who participates in RHPL’s summer reading challenge through August 8 will receive a free book.
The 2026 summer of reading, learning, and playing kicks off at Rochester Hills Public Library on Saturday, June 13, from 12-2 p.m. The all-ages party includes a non-profit fair featuring 17 local organizations, a plant propagation station and plant swap, a bounce house, giveaways, games, a Library of Things demonstration, and, of course, free ice cream courtesy of the Friends of RHPL.
Visit rhpl.org/events for an outstanding lineup of free programming and events for everyone. And don’t forget to celebrate a successful summer of reading on August 7, from 6-8 p.m. at the largest RHPL event, the Summer Sunset Block Party. Sign up for the sidewalk chalk competition, and enjoy free dinner, live music, and entertainment for everyone. See you this summer!
